What Does the Bible Say About Love and Dating?

Above all, continue to show sincere love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Forgiveness is essential, and then your love will shine brighter in the darkest moments of your relationship. Love is patient and kind; it does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Ultimately, the purpose of dating should be what God desires. For some, He may call for a stage where two people go out with the intention of getting married, but it could result in a lesson to learn or a friendship. It is important to recognize this, as many can fall into the trap of believing that the person you are dating should and can only be your spouse.

The goal and hope, of course, will be marriage, but not all relationships are destined to result in marriage. Some relationships are meant to build character, teach a lesson, or last for a season. The ultimate hope and intention of a dating relationship should be marriage. Marriage is the second most important relationship one will ever have; the most important one is with the Lord.

With this weight given to such intention, the precursor of dating must be given considerable thought, care and respect. Although some biblical accounts about marriage are culturally different from today's standards, the Bible is still relevant in providing fundamental pieces of truth for a godly marriage. If it hadn't been for Him and His will, I would have been lost because I was in a depression and was looking for love in man instead of Him. In this way, they will teach young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to have self-control, to be pure, to fulfill their duties at home, to be kind, to be submissive to their own husbands so that God's message is not discredited. Do not let anyone look down on you because of your youthfulness; instead set an example for believers in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.

Much of the questioning comes from modern forms of dating compared to the contextual traditions of biblical times. However, let each one of you love his wife as he loves himself and let the wife see that her husband respects her. Many people get into relationships and when they break up they realize that they weren't really in love. All quotes from the Scriptures, unless otherwise indicated, are taken from The Holy Bible in English Standard Version.

He loves audiobooks, feeding those he cares about and using Christmas lights to light up a room. A man who will love you not just because of your looks or body or how much money you make but because of who you are in Christ. Then Isaac took her to his mother Sarah's store and took Rebecca as his wife and he loved her. I charge you O daughters of Jerusalem by the gazelles or by the hinds of the field that you do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases you. It allows the Creator of everything to write a story that would make even a fairytale seem mediocre because He is the best author of all love.
